Established in 1999 as a permanent forum for inter-parliamentary cooperation in space between the European national parliaments interested in space policy, it aims at facilitating the exchange of information on space activities and at promoting mutual understanding of national policies through the provision of a forum for analysing the major issues at stake in the European space sector. This forum is supported by the European Space Policy Institute (ESPI).
EISC has three types of activities
Annual workshop on a theme decided upon by the rotating Presidency of EISC to discuss space-related policies
Annual conference to further discuss space-related policies and adopt a resolution
Each year, EISC members draft and vote a Resolution on a space-related topic put at the agenda of the plenary session
EISC full members are the following national parliaments of the member states of the European Union and/or of the European Space Agency that have created a parliamentary body dealing with space affairs:
EISC associate members are national parliaments of states not being full members of the European Union and/or the European Space Agency that have created a parliamentary body dealing with space affairs.
EISC observers are national parliaments of the member states of the European Union and/or of the European Space Agency that have not created a parliamentary body dealing with space affairs.
The Presidency is supported, at its discretion, by the European Space Policy Institute (ESPI), the European think tank for space, based in Vienna, Austria.
ESPI is responsible for ensuring coordination and communications between members and the acting Presidency and serves as a Secretariat for the organisation.
